hi i’m jill working to create my life in every moment

Thank you so much for being here, and for your strong desire to think better, implement better, and ultimately take full responsibility to create an amazing, healthy and happy life that you love.

In addition to launching my personal brand at JillFit.com in 2010, I was a co-founder of Metabolic Effect, Inc. My 16-year journey in the health and fitness industry began when I got my very first job at a gym just for the free membership at 15!

Since then, it’s a been a whirlwind of education in exercise science and nutrition, fitness competitions, landing several national covers for fitness modeling and plenty of business growth. My work has been featured in SELF magazine, Family Circle, SHAPE, Women’s Health magazine, Prevention magazine and many online news outlets like Yahoo Health, LiveStrong.com and AOL’s That’s Fit.

My passion lies in coaching in the areas of mindset, body and business, which I do via my flagship program, The Best Of You (BOY) Coaching Club mentorship, as well as a few signature online programs, like the Mindset Makeover, the Food Obsession Boot Camp and my 52-week exercise program, the Total Training Experience (TTE).

A few things you might not know about me …

  • I got into fitness through dancing. I used to make up dances with my friends and pretend I was Janet Jackson! My first “girl group” was The Young Stars in the 4th grade.
  • I’m originally from Boston, where I grew up with a huge Irish family – I am one of 19 grandchildren!
  • I went to an all-girls Catholic high school – uniform and everything! Loved it, and at times hated it. But was happy to be named ‘Athlete of the Year’ my senior year, not because I was the best but because I was pretty good at many sports and earned 4 varsity letters.
  • When I was 21, I said out loud my dream of having my own home workout so that people could exercise with me all over the world in their living room. At 29, I made that dream a reality when I recorded 14 home workouts for Comcast’s home exercise channel.
  • Growing up, Mountain Dew and Sprees were my kryptonite. And sadly, I have the cavities and dental work to show for it. My dentist is now one of my best friends, ha!
  • In 2012, I’d frequently read romance novels for escapism, and thought, “Writing these doesn’t seem that hard!” so I wrote a 82k word romance novel over 6 months! Never to be published, but a great way to kickstart my writers block.
  • Prepping for my second figure competition, I was determined to get my legs smaller/leaner, so I did 600 lunges 6 days a week for 10 weeks. #idie I don’t recommend it! I won my show and then promptly proceeded to gain back fat in place of the muscle I lost.
  • Fav food groups: chocolate, wine, cheese and coffee. Not necessarily in that order!

Thank you for stopping by. I’d love for you to send me an email and let me know how I can help you!

  • Maryalice Goldsmith

Best of You (BOY) Coach & Mentor

Maryalice was certified as an ISSA personal trainer back in 2008 and started my company, InsideOut Fitness. Her goal was to help as many people as possible embrace their health & fitness. What she quickly realized was, it would take more than a workout plan and a few training sessions. She discovered that she needed to approach the whole person.

Maryalice began studying for my nutrition certifications with Metabolic Effect. In 2013 after completing all three levels of their hormonal nutrition certifications she decided to officially change my company’s name to InsideOut Wellness, as she believes health starts on the inside and shines on the outside.

  • Sara Baker

    Jill’s Executive Assistant

Sara earned her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science, emphasis on Fitness Program Management from Oregon State University. After graduation, Sara moved to San Diego, California and worked various jobs in the fitness industry. In 2005, Sara moved across the country to Winston-Salem, North Carolina where she continued to teach and coach, started to personal train, and work in corporate wellness. While in North Carolina she met Jill and Jade and was one of the first trainers to become certified in Metabolic Effect.

In May of 2007, Sara completed her Masters of Science in Sports Studies from High Point University in North Carolina. Sara currently works full time as the Director of Training and Education for a corporate wellness company.

the full story my r oad from yo-yo dieter to automated eater

My career in fitness began at the age of 15 when I got my first job at a fitness center nursery so that I could start taking step aerobics classes for free. I started lifting weights — without a clue what I was doing — but found is magical that I could literally shape my body using resistance training. I woke up 6 months later with serious delts and have never looked back.

Always an athlete, in high school I did well in all things track and field, and then in college, I rowed crew for 4 years, in addition to teaching group fitness. My personality has always been the same, even back then: jump in, and then figure it out on the fly, which is how I taught myself how to teach any fitness class you can think of. I always thought, why not try?

I ended up earning my B.S. in Exercise Science from Wake Forest University and went on to get my M.S. in Human Nutrition at the University of Bridgeport.

I trained for my very first figure competition when I was 24, just to see if I could do it. And after winning my first show, I was hooked. Addicted to the process, addicted to the high of seeing if I could be better than everyone else, and unfortunately, addicted to seeing my physique in “show shape.” I was signed on as a fitness model during that time and landed 4 national magazine covers. I competed in Fitness Modeling shows and more for 5 years.

Until it seriously started to mess with my head. The diets and meal plans I’d used in the past simply stopped working. My metabolism stopped being as responsive and I kept falling off the wagon, only to berate myself for poor discipline, laziness and weakness. I felt ashamed that I couldn’t stay on the programs I was giving my clients and I felt embarrassed and “fat” when I was in my off-season (even though according to normal standards, I was fit, lean and healthy).

Over time, I got so fed up with the mind games and spinning my wheels around dieting, that I threw my hands up and decided I needed to find a new way, a healthier way, a forever way, even if that meant gaining weight. I couldn’t keep punishing myself with hours of cardio each day, nor could I keep jumping from failed plan to failed plan. I wanted to stop talking to myself so unkindly. I wanted to find a way to eat forever, I wanted to stop yo-yo’ing up and down 20 lbs each year.

It was in 2011, 6 months after starting JillFit.com that I finally had the courage to try a new, more moderate way of doing things. I stopped the incessant food prep and obsession. I quit the relentless meal plan following. I started looking inward and trusting myself more. I started listening to my body more. I stopped following coaches and experts. And I finally had the courage to break the yo-yo cycle. The answer for me was in the gray. No more negative self-talk. No more all-or-nothing eating. No more hard & fast rules.

The outcome was not only effective, but completely liberating. And now it is my mission and my passion to teach other women how to break that cycle. To start fully owning their process. To start working on their mind game so that they can create a life they love. This includes all aspects: mindset, physique and even business.

Since 2012, JillFit has morphed into a lifestyle company helping women become freer, smarter, happier and more effective. And to me, that’s everything.
