30 Days of Fat Loss–Day #8: Healthy Hemp Bread Breakfast

Every Monday morning we want to help you start the week off on the right foot with a great, fat loss breakfast!  Last week was oat bran with whey protein powder, and this week…guess what? You get to eat toast!  :)  This post features one of the only lower carb/higher fiber, high protein breads we have seen and we love the taste!  However, if you are not used to hearty breads (hello, Wonderbread), this may take a little getting used to, but it is worth it!

Without further ado, please welcome French Meadow Bakery’s Healthy Hemp Bread, found at Whole Foods Markets in the frozen foods section or online at French Meadow Bakery.  They are an awesome, aware company and even sent me an envelope full of coupons in the mail when I inquired on their website!

Here is the nutrition breakdown:
Serving size – 2 slices
Calories: 200
Fat: 5g (1g sat)
Carbohydrate: 24g (5g fiber)
Protein: 13g

We like to add 2 tbsp natural peanut butter on top to give it a little more protein.  Try 365’s No Salt Peanut Butter with the green top (below), or find you own natural peanut butter–check the label, the only ingredients should be peanuts only or peanuts & salt.  Steer clear of any peanut butter that has ANY other ingredients, like cane sugar, evaporated cane juice, hydrogenated oils, palm oil, etc.  You can find a great version with only peanuts and salt pretty much anywhere.  YUM!  And remember, with natural peanut butter, there is sometimes a layer of peanut oil on the top when you open the jar–don’t be scared!  Mix the oil into the pb, put the top back on, flip over the jar and put it into the fridge upside down…you will never have to deal with the oil again :)

When spreading onto your toast, make sure to stick to the peanut butter serving size (2 tbsp) because too large a serving of nut butter will provide too many calories and fat grams for a single meal.  Enjoy yummy goodness with a side of fat loss!   ox Jill
