The Bare Minimum You Need to Build an Online Business

Today, I want to share some insights on what I consider the bare minimum to build a successful online business—if you can’t do anything else in your business, you need to have these things. In a world filled with business coaches and endless information, it’s crucial to focus on the essentials. So, let’s dive in.

The Three I’s: Intrigue, Insight, and Investment Content

Firstly, let’s talk about the three I’s that shape the customer journey and sales cycle: Intrigue, Insight, and Investment Content.

Intrigue Content (Free Content)

-Social media is your starting point. Consistency beats frequency, so find a schedule that works for you.

-Aim for content that intrigues and adds value. Think of it like a first date – your audience is trying you on.

Insight Content (Hoop Jumping Content)

-Email newsletters become essential. This closed-container content requires an action for access.

-Consider an SMS list, free Facebook group, or even DM conversations. The key is providing value that requires commitment.

Investment Content (Your Offer)

-Your offer is the heart of your business. It could be one-on-one coaching, group coaching, or a course.

-Having something to sell is non-negotiable. It’s the culmination of moving from follower to lead to customer.

Essentials for Operations

Now, let’s address the operational side of your business.

Payment Platforms

-Utilize platforms like PayPal or Stripe. They’re accessible, user-friendly, and provide financial tracking.

-Consider obtaining a tax ID and starting as a sole proprietorship initially.

Service Delivery Platform

-Begin with low-tech methods like Excel or Google Docs for delivering services.

-As you grow, explore apps like Trainerize or True Coach for a more professional touch.

The Qualities Needed for Success

Being a successful business owner is more than just what you provide, it’s about who you become. I always say that running a business is innately personal development, because if you want to be in this for the long-haul, there are a few attributes you should strive to emulate.

Resourcefulness

-Entrepreneurship demands resourcefulness. Instead of asking if you have the money, ask how you can get it.

-Think creatively, launch new programs, and be proactive in finding solutions.

Tenacity

-Tenacity is your ability to persist through challenges. Love your business, stay committed, and weather the storms.

-Embrace uncertainty and understand that success often requires perseverance.

Resilience

-Be resilient when things go wrong. Challenges are inevitable, both logistically and emotionally.

-Surround yourself with a supportive community to navigate tough times and keep moving forward.

Building an online business doesn’t require complex strategies. Focus on the basics, adapt, and layer on additional elements as you grow. Stay resourceful, tenacious, and resilient – these intangibles will set you apart on your entrepreneurial journey. Remember, success is a journey, not a destination.
