Finding the Time & Energy to Build An Online Business

Today’s episode is inspired by an encounter with one of my FBA students, Jen, who won a VIP day with me in LA. We spent an intense four hours delving into her business, discussing everything from workouts to family life. What emerged from our conversation is a topic I believe many of you can relate to—the struggle of wanting to build an online business but feeling constrained by time and energy.

The Myth of Time Management: It’s All About Energy

If you’ve been a regular listener, you’ve probably heard me discuss the importance of energy management over time management. The notion that everyone has the same 24 hours a day is, frankly, a little condescending, especially for those of you juggling multiple priorities. You’re likely moms, individuals with full-time jobs, and people with various responsibilities. So, rather than dismissing your challenges with a simple “find the time,” let’s talk about how you can create time and manage your energy effectively.

The Struggle with Transitioning from In-Person to Online Business

Jen, much like some of you, is a successful in-person trainer with a growing clientele. However, her primary challenge lies in transitioning to an online coaching model. This predicament often boils down to feeling like there’s not enough time or being too exhausted to dedicate the necessary energy to the transition. The struggle is real, and I want to validate it. Unlike the one-size-fits-all advice of “find the time,” let’s explore practical strategies to carve out space for building your online presence.

Strategic Scheduling: Creating Space for Creativity

One of the strategies we discussed during Jen’s VIP day was restructuring her in-person training schedule. By making small adjustments, such as reducing session times and increasing prices, she was able to free up significant chunks of her day. Creative work, like crafting social media posts, requires not just time but mental space. Recognizing this, we focused on creating dedicated blocks for these activities.

Expectation Management: Breaking Down Tasks

Often, the enormity of building an online business can be paralyzing. To overcome this, break down tasks into manageable daily, weekly, and monthly items. Commit to a maximum of three daily tasks, ensuring consistency. This approach, rooted in expectation management, prevents overwhelm and encourages steady progress.

Building Trust Cumulatively: The Daily Grind Matters

Success in building an online business is not a result of grand gestures. It’s about the accumulation of small, consistent actions. Every social media post, every client interaction, and every piece of content contribute to building trust and credibility. Remember, it’s a journey of daily check-the-box tasks that add up over time.

Pace Yourself: Embrace the Long Game

Building a lasting online business is a marathon, not a sprint. Resist the urge to rush, and settle into a pace that aligns with your long-term goals. Embrace the responsibility, accountability, and reliability that come with building a career, not just a fleeting success.

Final Thoughts

Remember, building your online business is a process of consistency, patience, and strategic action. Don’t wait for the perfect time—start now and pave the way for your long-term success.
